The aim of District U-46 is college and workplace readiness for all students. CTE courses offer
opportunities for students to work toward and/or earn professional industry certifications. These certifications provide evidence of learning and skill development as students transition to post-secondary education and future careers.

NATEF (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation)

To help vocational educators recruit, mentor and train tomorrow's technicians, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) offers certification for technician training programs. The purpose of the automotive technician training certification program is to improve the quality of training offered at secondary and post-secondary public and proprietary schools. District U-46 currently has NATEF certified automotive programs at South Elgin and Larkin High Schools.

NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills)

Skills in the metalworking industry are certified through the earning of NIMS credentials. The credentials are awarded on satisfactory completion of both performance tests and related theory exams. South Elgin and Streamwood High Schools are working toward this professional certification.

Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.)

A year course, offered at all five District U-46 comprehensive high schools, prepares students for careers as nursing assistants. Learning takes place in a classroom, laboratory and clinical setting. The program combines 108 hours of theory with 50 hours of hands-on training. Students learn about basic anatomy, disease/infection theory and develop long-term care skills. Curriculum and course requirements are approved and monitored by the Illinois Public Health department. Upon successful completion of both classroom and clinical instruction, students sit for the State of Illinois C.N.A. Certification exam.

American Welding Society

 The certified Welder program is a performance-based program and the certification will provide "transferable"credentials that can be used in a variety of industries. The exam tests welders on procedures used in the structural steel, petroleum pipelines, sheet metal and chemical refinery welding industries. The AWS Certified Welder program allows welders to obtain multiple certifications to expand their credentials. Every certification that a welder earns increases the number of skills needed to perform a wide range of welding jobs.
