Academy students engage in a rigorous curriculum within specialized facilities, equipped with the latest learning resources and cutting-edge technology tailored to each program's focus. Each U-46 high school offers an academy program with a distinct emphasis, designed to nurture students' talents and interests.
Students enrolled in the program must complete both program-specific and graduation-required courses. The program-specific courses required will vary depending on the academy your student is part of.

The five academies are:
- Bartlett High School --- Science, Engineering and Technology Academy
- Elgin High School --- International Baccalaureate (previously the Gifted and Talented Academy)
- Larkin High School --- Visual and Performing Arts Academy
- South Elgin High School --- BEACON Academy of Media & Digital Arts
- Streamwood High School --- Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Action, and Design (LEAD)
