Support/Related Services

• Health Services: Health Services is a tiered delivery model with Certified School Nurses who are involved in Educational Health Assessment, Behavioral Rating Scales, data collection, and IEP goal/ interventions/accommodations with the goals of identifying and seeking resolution of any health condition that interferes with learning and collaborating with parents and other educational professionals to create educational plans to bridge health barriers that impact student learning. CSNs communicate with their nursing team member involved in the direct nursing services, the Direct Service Nurses. These nurses directly care for children who require individual health plans and they address students' skilled nursing needs, medication administration, and health assistance.

• Home Hospital: Any student with a health or physical impairment that will cause an extended absence from school may be eligible to receive home and/or hospital tutoring. The health or physical impairment must be verified by a written statement from a licensed medical examiner. In conjunction with the medical examiner, school personnel must determine that the student can educationally benefit from such a program. 

• Itinerant of Visually Impaired: The Itinerant of Visually Impaired (IVI) provides diagnostic, consultation, and instructional services to identified visually impaired students. IVI travels throughout the District to provide direct and consultation minutes for students at all levels. The IVI supports core academic instruction and provides direct instruction in expanded core curricular areas. The IVI is a member of the IEP team and is responsible for performing and documenting results of Functional Vision and Learning Media assessments as well as recording on IEP goals.

• Occupational and Physical Therapy:   Occupational and Physical therapy helps individuals promote successful and independent participation across school settings.  OT & PT's support student access and eliminate barriers to learning.  Occupational therapists support students' participation in student occupations (which may include supports for fine motor skills, self-help skills, self-regulation/sensory processing).  Physical therapists support student’s participation in school to access their school environment addressing gross motor skills.   The occupational and physical therapists support the educational goals in collaboration with classroom teachers. 

• Psychological Services: School psychologists serve children who have educational or adjustment problems. They observe children in the classroom and collaborate with the classroom teachers to develop intervention strategies. The school psychologist also administers individual psychological examinations to students of all grade levels who might be in need of special education services. The tests assess intelligence, personality, achievement, and/or perceptual traits. By interpreting the results, the psychologist can help determine the student’s strengths and weaknesses. 

• Social Work Services: School social workers assist students with identified social, emotional, or behavioral problems that interfere with learning or with adjustment to school. School social workers assist school staff in developing and implementing programs to help students and families. Through the use of assessment, direct service, collaborative intervention, and providing referrals, school social workers effectively serve students, parents, school, and community. 

• Speech and Language Services: Speech/Language Pathologists (SLPs) provide services to students who have been identified as having an impairment in the areas of language articulation, voice, and speech fluency. The speech and/or language impairment must adversely affect the student's ability to communicate effectively in the educational setting. SLPs utilize a variety of service delivery models and collaborate with staff in order to meet students' needs.
