Important Resources for Community Members
School District U-46 values its relationship with residents of the 11 cities and towns it serves, along with its alumni, members of the media, local businesses and organizations, and other community partners. The "Departments Directory" page on this website is a comprehensive spot for links, and below you will find more information and links to some of the most important resources for members of the general community. Parents of U-46 students can find a similar resource here.
The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is a state statute that provides the public the right to access government documents and records. Any person, group, association, corporation, firm, partnership or organization has the right to file a FOIA request to any state or local public body, including school districts. This FOIA page on the U-46 website includes information on how to file a request as well as links to responses from previous years.
The Board of Education (BOE) is responsible for determining the policies which guide the operation of School District U-46. Here you will find links to information about BOE members, past presentations, the current Board packet, the process for public comments at meetings, and how to contact the Board. A detailed meeting schedule can be found here. Meetings are held at the Educational Services Center at 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin, and they can also be viewed via the District’s YouTube channel.
U-46 invites the community to rent its facilities for community programs, sporting events, and other meetings that benefit our communities and schools. On the Facility Rentals page, you’ll find the rental handbook, a rental application form, and a phone number to call with questions.
Your starting point to request the release of student records, verify attendance, or request a copy of a student’s transcript/medical records.
Under the Financial Services section of the website, you will find information on the current and past budgets, itemized bills, salary information for teachers and administrators, and more.
Calendars
You will find information on the 2018-19 school year here, as well as District-wide events and Board of Education meetings.
The District welcomes new applicants for administrative, teaching, and support positions throughout the year. More information can be found through the Human Resources department.
The District produces an Annual Report each calendar year that provides a wonderful snapshot of the students and employees of U-46.
For questions or resources not addressed here, the District’s new customer service tool — called Let’s Talk! — can be helpful. For use by parents, employees and community members, Let’s Talk! is a way to ensure that questions or concerns get addressed and are not lost in an email inbox and are instead routed to the correct department and individual. The tool keeps track of how long it takes for a response to be sent, and the individual who initiated the Let’s Talk! dialogue is asked to complete a customer service survey at the end of the process.
