    Absence Procedure
Attendance voicemail is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week — even when the beginning message says that school is closed. If a parent does not report the absence by 10 am, the school will attempt to contact the parent at the telephone number given on the emergency card. If no contact has been made, the absence will be unexcused. Any absence from school counts as a non-attendance day and will be reflected on a student’s attendance record.

Absence from school is excused for illness, funerals and family emergencies. Dental and routine doctor appointments should be arranged during non-school hours and vacation days. If appointments are absolutely necessary, the student must present an appointment card or doctor’s note upon returning to school.

    Missed assignments
Assignments missed due to an excused absence must be made up and completed within the time period set by the teacher. Assignments for excused absences of three or more days may be obtained through the Attendance Office by request of the parent or guardian.

    Tardy Policy
Classes begin at 9:00 am. If a student is tardy to school during the first period of the school day, that student must go to the cafeteria to receive a tardy slip prior to admission to class. During the first semester, when the student has accumulated five tardies to first period, the office will contact the parent or guardian and disciplinary action will result. During the second semester, after three tardies, disciplinary action will result.

    Vacations
Parents are discouraged from taking vacation during the school year, except during regularly scheduled breaks in the school calendar, such as winter break, spring break, and summer vacation. If an extended absence/vacation during the school year is unavoidable, the absence is marked as unexcused.

    Truancy
Truancy is being absent without permission from any scheduled class or activity to which a student has been assigned. Truancy to school will result in disciplinary action, a referral to the county truancy officer and a referral to the Streamwood Police liaison.
