  •  Dear Huff Community,

The students, staff, and administration of Huff Elementary School welcome you to our website!

Our goal is to assure that the entire Huff Community is provided with both relevant and timely information. We hope that each of you find this site to be a useful resource to learn more about what makes Huff Elementary School a remarkable place for our Wildcats.  Since 1954, Huff Elementary has been a loving and nurturing learning environment for over 600 students Pre-Kindergarten through Sixth Grade in General Education and Dual Language settings.

Our dedicated and experienced staff, active Parent and Teachers of Huff (PTH) group, Huff Student Ambassadors, and committed families are among the many reasons Huff Elementary is so special.  Together we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing and caring environment where high expectations promote learning and achievement for all students.  We take great pride in celebrating the diverse learning styles, interests, talents and cultures of our students.  Our student-centered approaches strive to offer a rich variety of meaningful learning experiences that will inspire innovative thinkers and confident learners.

My personal background and professional experience has been indispensable for my success as an educator.  I was born and raised in Elgin just four blocks from Huff Elementary.  As a child to immigrant parents from Mexico, I learned firsthand about the challenges many of our students experience by learning a new language, assisting parents with translations, and embracing the American culture which was different from my own upbringing.  Many of these experiences led the path for me to become an educator and support the greater community. While I have embraced a servant leadership style throughout my last ten years as an elementary and secondary administrator, my first nine years as a teacher engendered my passion for education students' success.

It is my belief that it takes a community to assure a child's success.  To this end, our goal at Huff Elementary is to create an inclusive and collegial learning environment, where educators support one another, our students have an active role in their own success, and our parents are engaged in the process.  Huff Elementary prides itself on developing strong relationships with stakeholders to cultivate through an exceptional learning environment where students achieve academic success.  Know you are a part of our Huff Family and can reach out anytime.

    All my best,

    Dr. Angelica M. Ernst
